The 2nd Annual Daffodil Festival in St. Michaels, Marlyand

St. Michaels, Maryland is a beautiful, small town located along the Chesapeake Bay at the edge of the Delmarva peninsula. This weekend, my dad and I traveled to the small town to attend the 2nd Annual Daffodil Festival. The day was absolutely perfect for this event with temperatures around 70 degrees. Upon first arrival to the town of St. Michaels, we were greeted with quaint, small businesses lining both sides of the main road. Small businesses of all types; from family owned restaurants to stores that sold little knick knacks for tourists. One thing I thought that was pretty amazing about this town was that all of little shops were in old houses. I told my dad, "This town , definitely, knows how to make the most out of life." There were also a quite a few churches in St. Michaels. The one I have included the picture of is the St. Michael's Perish which dates back to the late 1600's.
When the Daffodil Festival began you could see the women sporting the daffodil hats they had created for the Daffodil Hat contest. The hat creations that were made out of daffodils were amazing! My favorite one looked like a sail boat made of daffodils! Another contest that was being held at this event was the Daffy Dog contest. All of the dogs dressed up in their daffodil costumes were so cute! One even wore a top hat and vest with a daffodil lining the hat.
At the center of the festival, the volunteers set up booths, selling Daffodil festival merchandise, food , flowers, and raffle tickets. I bought a pansy flower! The person that won the raffle received this beautiful daffodil painting, created by one of the local artists. The ladies who were volunteering also handed out maps of the places in town that were participating in the festivities. If you walked to
the Woman's Club building, they were hosting a garden tour and the St. Michaels Museum was conducting tours. They also listed on the map how many daffodil bulbs were planted in each part of town. Certain spots had over 10,000 planted daffodils! Bingo cards were being handed out by the ladies at the booths, that you could get stamped as you went into the shops and for getting bingo they gave you a daffodil bulb of your own. I had an amazing time in St. Michaels!I can not wait to go back and see more of what St. Michaels has to offer!
